Research collaboration

I'm really loooking forward to meeting the young people involved in our university research collaboration tomorrow.
Below are some of the videos I've picked out to get them thinking about how our own film should look and communicate to people:

Thanks to all who attended the Suffrage Stories event last night, what a great audience you were! Some quick research into any of these women is an inspiring experience and it has most definitely been one of the most motivating, eye-opening and exciting pieces of research I have ever done. It was so joyous to spend hours uncovering these amazing women from history and discovering the breadth and scope of their achievements.
Thanks to all who suggested women to include and set me on this wonderful journey of discovery.

Snake Ropes

In December 2012, I began production for a short film 'Snake Ropes'. It was designed to be a trailer for a book of the same name, published by Sceptre, which explains the mysterious nature of the film. The idea was to draw people in and make them wonder what this book was all about. The link to the film is here:

MA Film; some more images

The film I made for my MA course is a documentary, which includes some dramatised scenes within it. I've already posted some images of the drama scenes and behind the scenes footage, so I thought I'd include some of the archive photos and other images from the film in this post. There are suffragettes, a playbill we reproduced based on authentic materials from the time, a still from the film, and the last two pictures are Cicely Hamilton and Edith Craig, two of the most well known female theatre practioners of the era. Enjoy!

MA film: Behind the scenes

As part of my MA film, which is a documentary about the playwrights who wrote for the suffrage movement, we adapted one of the plays from the era; 'A Chat with Mrs Chicky'. Here are some behind the scenes shots of our period, Edwardian drama/comedy. Also, very excitingly, shot on location at The Pankhurst Centre, former home of Emiline Pankhurst and her family. Thanks to the incredibly talented Michela De Rossi for the beautiful pics!

The Wind in the Willows with the Manchester Library Theatre

In December 2011, I was commissioned by Manchester Library Theatre to develop and produce some projections for their Christmas show 'The Wind in the Willows'. I worked closely with the Artistic Director Chris Honer and designer Judith Croft to create original video projections with an 'early cinema' feel. I filmed and edited the work, adding effects to make them seem like film from the early 1900s, the period in which the play was set. One of them can be seen in the trailer for the production at 25 seconds. The link is below, along with some photos from the show.

Tall Tales, Tantrums and Gordon Brown with the Library Theatre's Norfox group

In August 2011, I was commissioned to create film projections for a theatre show with the Library Theatre's Norfox group. The play was called 'Tall Tales, Tantrums and Gordon Brown' and featured deaf and hearing young actors working together. It was a wonderful experience and I really enjoyed playing around with the images and being able to combine my two passions; film and theatre. You can watch an edited video featuring my projections on my vimeo page or see the whole performance by clicking here.

Joyce Ridings documentary

I made this documentary with my M.A. colleague Ali. It's a film about the fashion designer Joyce Ridings and her work over 45 years in the industry. We were commissioned to make this for the Manchester Gallery of Costume for their exhibition celebrating Joyce's designs. It ran from May 11th to September 3rd. My upload limit has already been reached on the blog so you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=albggu3N3fY

Cult

This is a piece I filmed last summer for Dimitris. He's a hairdresser and wanted someone to film his presentation of hairstyles. I edited it to the music that he used on the day. It's a bit dark, due to the mood lighting and it takes a few seconds to kick in, so be patient ; ) Check it out here

A bit later than planned..

So I've finally uploaded a few films to my youtube account and I'll share them now..
